Must Have: Je iPad als onderdeel van je studio – Drie Must Have Audio apps
De iPad is langzaam maar zeker een steeds serieuzere rol aan het krijgen in het elektronische muziek circuit, in het begin waren het vooral nog speelse apps als Magic Piano en Bebot waar je leuke geluiden mee kunt maken en heerlijk mee kon spelen. Maar nu merken we langzaam maar zeker dat de hoeveelheid serieuze audio apps aan het toe nemen is. Dat niet alleen, met de komst van een MIDI API in iOS4.2 zal de iPad in de nabije toekomst steeds vaker te zien zijn in opname sudios en DJ-booths. Vandaag hebben wij een kleine greep gedaan in een aantal van de wat serieuzere audio apps op je iPad, sequencers en synthesizers compleet met drumkits en al, waar je complete arrangementen mee kunt maken. De apps hieronder zijn wat ons betreft Must Have apps voor iedere audiofiel met een iPad.
De apps
Allereerst een app die al een tijdje te krijgen is op de iPad, een app van het wereldberoemde KORG, deze jongens zitten al bijna zo lang als het bestaat in de elektronische muziek apparaten en eigenlijk kent iedereen die maar iets met digitale muziek heeft deze naam wel. KORG iELECTRIBE is een wat speelse virtuele analoge beatbox die eigenlijk gewoon een digitale versie is van de beroemde ELECTRIBE-R van Korg. Deze analoge beatbox is makkelijk in het gebruik en je hebt binnen no-time een stampende beat klaar met een lekkere dikke vette analogo synth die er door heen druipt. Bij mij staat ie al sinds de release op mijn iPad en ik gebruik hem regelmatig om het huis op zijn kop te krijgen (tot grote ergernis van mijn vriendin).

Gelukkig heeft KORG niet stil gezeten en sinds deze week hebben zij een nieuwe app in de appstore en ditmaal hebben zij de legendarische KORG MS-20 analoge synth een virtueel jasje gegeven en man-o-man wat is hij fijn. Niet alleen zit er een MS-20 in maar ook nog een 16-staps analoge sequencer gebaseerd op de KORG SQ-10, een drum machine en een mixer, zodat je complete songs kunt produceren. En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is, heeft KORG om het hele verhaal af te maken ook nog KAOSS pad functionaliteit toegevoegd en je de mogelijkheid gegeven om het hele spulletje te patchen middels virtuele kabels. De app was voor mij een instabuy en ik kan niet anders zeggen dan DAMN wat is ie goed, sluit je iPad aan op je versterker en beuken maar! Echt ik kan niet anders zeggen, hou je van digitaal muziek maken, op wat voor niveau dan ook, en heb je een iPad? Dan is dit een echte must-have!

Last but definitely not least een app die op de iPhone al een tijdje beschikbaar was maar daar heel erg niet tot zijn recht kwam (naar mijn mening), ReBirth for iPad. ReBirth is niet direct een virtuele kopie van een fysieke machine, ReBirth was van zichzelf namelijk altijd al software, software die voornamelijk gebruikt werd voor het maken van Techno. Die software was dan wel weer gebaseerd op allerlei apparaten van het bekende merk Roland, De TB-303 synthesizer, ja die hele bekende waar de authentiek acid sound mee gemaakt werd, en de drum computers TR-808 en TR-909. (hier een voorbeeld van de 303 en de 909 gecombineerd). ReBirth was destijds een echte openbaring voor audiofielen die wel graag digitale muziek wilde maken maar niet het geld hadden om een complete studio aan te leggen en het feit dat deze software nu op de iPad te krijgen is maakt me erg blij. ReBirth is de meest complete van deze drie apps, en zeker voor liefhebbers van de 303 sound is dit een Must Have!
